Gaudeamus Theatrum 2025 – Presentation from the Workshop
This year’s edition of the international theatre meeting Gaudeamus Theatrum will focus on the fusion of technology and original puppet theatre. Theatre students from the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Poland will have a unique opportunity to work under the guidance of two experienced mentors, both of whom have long explored experimental approaches to puppetry in their work.
Gavin Glover, a British theatre and film creator with over thirty years of experience in experimental puppet theatre, will lead participants in exploring live cinema, the real-time filming of stage action. Students will work with cameras in a theatrical setting, investigating the interplay of light, colours, and materials with storytelling, and discovering new perspectives in visual narration.
Dominik Migač, a Czech artist from a younger generation, known for fusing conceptual art, puppetry, and technology, will focus on the creative process of original theatre-making – from material experimentation to final dramaturgy. Under his guidance, students will explore new approaches to puppetry pushing the boundaries of this art form.
The public outcome of the workshop will be a presentation of work-in-progress sketches and experiments developed during an intensive week-long process. Audiences will have the opportunity to glimpse into the creative research that merges theatre action with modern technologies, opening new possibilities for puppet theatre.
Additionally, the event will feature a conference focused on the role of technology in puppet theatre, offering inspiring insights and discussions on this evolving topic.
Gaudeamus Theatrum 2025 is organized in collaboration with LOUTEX, a festival showcasing puppet theatre for adult audiences and Department of Alternative and Puppet Theatre Academy od Performing Arts Prague.
